MY FOUNDATION ROUTINE

Hello, lovelies! Let’s talk foundations. I’ve always been a foundation girl. If there is one makeup product I can never give up, it’s the foundation. Not because it’s absolutely necessary. I usually go minimal with my makeup or no makeup at all. But when I want to play with makeup or go for a glamorous makeup look foundation is my favourite makeup product. I like the process of applying foundation. For me, it’s the most enjoyable part of my makeup routine.

I like trying and buying new foundations. But it’s probably the hardest part of my makeup routine to get right. I have to consider the type of coverage I want, the skin type, undertones and so on. Most importantly, I need to have flawless skin for flawless foundation application. We apply foundation to get flawless skin and cover imperfections. However, foundations exaggerate bad skin conditions and make them look even worse. Without further ado, I want to share some of my tips for better application and performance.

Moisturizing in the first place, it’s the most important part of your foundation routine. If your skin is dehydrated you will not get the most out of your foundation no matter what quality product you use. You need to keep the skin well hydrated and plump by maintaining a good skincare routine and using a light moisturizer before foundation. Foundation should not go immediately after the moisturizer though. Good skincare and using moisturizer will prevent your foundation from cracking and caking to a great extent.

Exfoliating is the second important factor in your foundation routine. If the skin is flaky the foundation will not sit well on your skin. We need to get rid of dead skin and impurities for the smooth application of the foundation. You should ideally exfoliate your skin with gentle, fine-grain scrub twice a week. You can choose another exfoliating technique, like chemical exfoliation, brushing or just using a muslin cloth. It depends on your preference, skin type and how much exfoliation you need. Exfoliating gives you silky and smooth skin, foundation glides on your skin easily and doesn’t stick to imperfections making them more visible.

My next tip is to use the right tool. I like using different tools with different foundations. Sometimes I like a beauty blender, sometimes I use a buffing brush. Try different tools and see which one applies your foundation better. I like to apply the foundation with my fingertips when the texture is watery. If it’s not runny I usually like to use a synthetic bristle buffing brush. The brush application gives you more coverage. If you want a more natural look then you can use your finger tips.

As to primers, I don’t use any primers before my foundation. I am not sure if they really work. I don’t believe they can minimise pores or whatsoever. However, I haven’t tried many products. Maybe there are good products out there which I should try that would make me change my mind about primers. But so far no primer in my makeup routine. I like to keep my base as thin as possible, no need for a useless layer on my skin.

That is it, ladies. Enjoy your foundation application!
